Fun with Jack and Jill and DNA

I recently met a dog named Jack...whose human companion is named Jill. Aside from the nursery rhyme association, I will say these two were meant to be together.

Soon after we met, I questioned Jack's breed mix. Jill said she'd been wondering too. She recently adopted Jack, so had no information on his parents. Jill decided to unravel the mystery using modern science and ordered a DNA test kit.

It takes about two weeks to get results, a little longer than the average dog takes to learn his Invisible Fence® boundaries. So over the course of Jack's training period, we counted the days until his ancestry would be revealed.

Jack looks very Border Collie-ish. However, Jill wondered if Karelian Bear Dog could be responsible for his black and white markings. Only time would tell.

The day the results arrived Jill notified me by email.
  • 30 - 35% each Border Collie and Mastiff
  • 15% each Doberman and Siberian Husky
  • 5% Chow Chow

Which = one 100% wonderfully unique and adorable Jack.
