Did I REALLY want to know?

My customers consistently ask about Andee's breed type. I have always said he is a "Classic Mutt," or more scientifically, "Muttimus Classicus." Curious myself, I finally broke down and tried one of those DNA kits. They are very easy to use. The kit provides two long cotton-tipped swabs to collect saliva samples. Simply slide them into the envelope provided and send it off to the lab. Two weeks later I got the results. At first I was excited to open the envelope...but then I hesitated. Did I really want to know? What if I'd been totally off the mark all these years? What would that mean? Would it change the way I felt about Andee? Eventually I tore open the envelope and absorbed the contents. I was shocked. Really shocked. All these years I'd told my customers I thought Andee was part Border Collie, Husky, Pit Bull Terrier, Hound and Labrador or Golden Retriever. Here's what the lab said: 35% Belgian Tervuren, 35% English Springer Spaniel, 10% each Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever and...this is what blew me away...PEKINGESE! No wonder my 80-pound mutt thinks he's a lap dog. It all makes sense now. I've started calling Andee "My little Pekingese," which drives my husband crazy. I guess knowing isn't all that bad.
